St. Theresa
School has adopted the California State Standards as the
minimum standard for its math curriculum. The program provides
ambitious expectations for all students, with modifications
for qualifying students. Every grade level has a carefully
developed set of mathematics expectations. These expectations
are divided into 5 areas: number sense, algebra and functions,
measurement and geometry, statistics, data, analysis and
probability, and mathematical reasoning, Additional outcomes
emphasized in the 7th and 8th grade expectations include
topical strands in Algebra 1 and Geometry. Additional outcomes
for all grades (K-8th) focus on the use of technology and how
it influences mathematics. We now offer split math classes in
the 7th and 8th grade. One class is taught at grade level and
the other is taught at an accelerated pace. Students are given
an entrance exam at the beginning of the school year. Math
placement is based on test results and standardized test
scores.
